The Presidents' Conference Committee Streetcar (PCC)

By Patrick Yutiga

The Presidents' Conference Committee Streetcar was the workhorse of the Toronto Transportation Commission and the Toronto Transit Commission from 1938 to 1995. The PCCs had many versions of itself, but were mainly narrowed into two different types: air-electric and all-electric. The Toronto Transit Commission once had the largest PCC fleet in North America with a total of 745 cars. Many PCCs were bought brand new from CanCar and Foundry in Montreal, but some were bought secondhand from several American transit authorities abandoning streetcar service.

The Air-Electrics

The air-electrics were the first PCCs purchased by the Toronto Transit Commision. There were several differences between the air-electrics and the all-electrics.
